K9

The term “Military Working Dog” refers to our loyal four-legged friend: the dog. As a K9 handler, you play a crucial supportive role within the Operational Detachment of the unit. This role may involve working as an SF operator or as part of a dedicated K9 team.

The K9s of the unit are distinguished from other military dogs by their unique dual-purpose capability. They are not only trained to detect explosives but also to serve as attack dogs.

Special Forces Group K9

Training

To qualify as a K9 handler, you must first accumulate several years of experience as an SF operator within one of the Squadrons. Once a suitable dog is selected, training is predominantly conducted internally within the unit. Over the course of about a year, the dog and handler develop into an inseparable team.

The team then enhances its skills in various operational areas, including military free fall, fast-roping, heli-rappelling, maritime surface operations, and integration into the squadrons. The handler also gains advanced knowledge in medical care for their loyal companion.

Additionally, the team works closely with another specialized unit: AEOD (Advanced EOD).

Beyond the daily care of the dog, the handler must continuously refine their personal operator skills to remain fully operational.

As a K9 handler, you will join a unique international community where expertise and knowledge about this specialized role are shared. A profound bond is formed with the dog, who will be a constant companion in your life.
